چکیده

G35·6−0·4 is an extended radio source in the Galactic plane which has previously been identified as either a supernova remnant or an HII region. Observations from the VLA Galactic Plane Survey at 1.4 GHz with a resolution of 1 arcmin allow the extent of G35·6−0·4 to be defined for the first time. Comparison with other radio survey observations show that this source has a non-thermal spectral index, with S ∝ ν−0.47±0.07. G35·6−0·4 does not have obvious associated infra-red emission, so it is identified as a Galactic supernova remnant, not an HII region. It is ≈ 15×11 arcmin2 in extent, showing partial limb brightening.

Context. The field just West of the galactic supernova remnant W28 (l=6.4 o , b=-0.2 o) harbors 3 of 5 newly-discovered 1720 OH maser spots and two recently-discovered candidate supernova candidates (one of which is a γ-ray source), as well as several compact and classical HII regions. Aims. To show the interaction of radio supernova remnants with ambient molecular gas in sky field just West of...

The Expansion of G11.2−0.3, a Radio Composite Supernova Remnant

We compare recent observations of the supernova remnant G11.2−0.3 taken with the VLA during 2001−02 with images from VLA archives (1984−85) to detect and measure the amount of expansion that has occurred during 17 years. The bright, circular outer shell shows a mean expansion of (0.71± 0.15)% and (0.50±0.17)%, from 20and 6-cm data, respectively, which corresponds to a rate of 0. 057±0. 012/yr a...

G315.4−2.3 is an extended shell supernova remnant (SNR) with some characteristics of evolutionarily young remnants and some of older ones. To further elucidate some of its characteristics, we present imaging and polarimetry of this SNR at a frequency of 1.34 GHz with a resolution of 8 arcsec made with the Australia Telescope Compact Array. The indicators of youth are: Morphologically, the radio...

0 On neutron star / supernova remnant associations

It is pointed out that a cavity supernova explosion of a moving massive star could result in a significant offset of the neutron star birthplace from the centre of the nearly spherical supernova remnant. Therefore: a) the high implied transverse velocities of a number of neutron stars (e.g. PSR B 1757-24, SGR 0526-66, 1E 0820-4247) could be reduced; b) the proper motion vector of the neutron st...

The Schweizer–Middleditch star revisited

We have re-observed and re-analysed the optical spectrum of the Schweizer–Middleditch star, a hot subdwarf which lies along almost the same line-of-sight as the centre of the historic SN1006 supernova remnant (SNR). Although this object is itself unlikely to be the remnant of the star which exploded in 1006AD, Wellstein et al. (1999) have demonstrated that it could be the remnant of the donor s...
